Wood River Middle School Students Participate in the National Geographic Bee
“The National Geographic Bee is an annual competition organized by the National Geographic Society, designed
to inspire and reward students’ curiosity about the world. Students in grades four through eight (4-8) from 10,000 schools across the United States will compete in the 2020 National Geographic Bee for a chance to win college scholarships and the glory of being the National Geographic Bee Champion.”
All students at WRMS participated in the initial round of the Geo Bee in their Social Studies classes.
The following 29 students advanced to the Final Round, which was held on January 24, 2020.
6th Graders: Tessa Peck, Xavier Fonseca, Sean Bennett, Simon Morgan, Devin Egoavil, Fisher Hattula,
Cassidy Bucknall, Neve St. Onge, Taylor Heitzman
7th Graders: Brett Poggi, Leila Brickley, Ozzie Scherer, Ashley Virula, Luca Calcagno, Luke Miller,
Wylder Grafft, Rylee McMinn, Wyatt Dunn, Ceci Hess
8th Graders: Guillerme da Silva, Sadie Rector, Kyle Miller, Annika Peterson, Charlotte Christensen,
Trent Baker, Lucas Smith, Emmett Stouffer, Elliott Burks, Charlotte Stone
Ten students advanced to the Championship Round: Lucas Smith, Emmett Stouffer, Leila Brickley, Ceci Hess, Neve St. Onge, Sean Bennett, Wylder Grafft, Mazzy Conners, and Ozzie Scherer
7th grader, Leila Brickley, won the school competition and will now have the opportunity to participate in the state-level competition in Boise. The runner up was 6th grader Sean Bennett.
