WRMS 8th Graders Receive Avalanche Training

WRMS students Beacon Finding Traducción al español

As the second semester came to a close at Wood River Middle School (WRMS) about 128 students participated in two-days of avalanche education. Students were introduced to Know Before You Go Program thanks to a presentation from volunteer Mike Schley. This program focuses on five steps: get the gear, get the training, get the forecast, get the picture, and get out of harm's way before playing in the backcountry. The field day was possible with the incredible community support of Peter Carse, Tanner Haskins, Carson Johnston, Skylar Hebert, Trey Knox, Neils Meyer, and Stacey Ward, Sawtooth Avalanche Center Education Coordinator. Students collaborated in small groups with hands-on experiences such as using a beacon, slope meter, and compass.
