Wood River High School Social Worker
Julie Carney is the Social Worker at WRHS . Julie is a Wood River High graduate herself, class of 1984. After graduating from WRHS, she began her undergraduate education at the University of Idaho and eventually ended up at The University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) where she received her Bachelor's degree in Psychology, class of 1991, and then her Master's degree in Social Work, class of 1996. After working for several years in Southern California with youth involved in the foster care and juvenile justice systems, she and her husband Brian returned to the Wood River Valley to raise their family. Julie obtained her clinical license and began working in a private practice setting with families, children, and adolescents. She was the consulting social worker for Blaine Manor and contracted with the BCSD to run therapeutic groups in all schools grades k-12. When the social work position came open at WRHS she began to work full time at WRHS in the 2003-2004 school year. Julie is married to Brian Carney, a graduate of The Community School, Class of 1983, who has a private CPA business in Hailey. They have two teenage boys who have graduated from WRHS, Classes of 2016 and 2018
Her clinical emphasis comes from the holistic approach of Individual Psychology, a practice based on the work of Alfred Adler. She holds an advanced training certificate in Individual Psychology. As well, she is certified in both the Community Resiliency Model and Trauma Resiliency model - both are designed to help individuals and communities build strength out of life's challenges.
