Dan Vanden Heuvel

I'm a Wisconsin native and graduated from Wausau East High School in Wausau, WI (Go, Lumberjacks!). Then, I earned B.S. degrees in English and Conservation Biology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison (Go, Badgers!) and eventually a Master of Educational Technology through Boise State University (Go, Broncos!). For 10 years after college, I worked in the field of wilderness education, primarily for the National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS) instructing month-long backpacking, leadership, and mountaineering expeditions throughout the western U.S. and Alaska. I first visited the Wood River Valley in 1998 and moved here full time in 2008. Since moving here, I have worked at Sun Valley Community School's outdoor program, Wood River Middle School, St. Luke's Center for Community Health, and Wood River High School (since 2012). In addition to teaching, I coached soccer at WRHS from 2008-2016 (Boys JV Head Coach) and WRMS from 2018-2020 (Boys Varsity Head Coach). My main interests outside of school are guitar, outdoor activities, hockey, and traveling to new places.
