Welcome to First Grade!
- First Grade teachers at Hemingway Elementary value camaraderie, teamwork, and innovation. Our highest priority is the development of the whole child. We nurture student progress by focusing on academic, emotional, and social success. We help children develop a growth mindset, and emphasize the value of the learning process as much as the results. Children learn that it’s Okay to be wrong. We encourage them to listen to others and try different ways and ideas.
- The First Grade curriculum engages students in Reading, Writing, Mathematics, Social Studies, Engineering, Arts, Health and Science. In addition, we offer special enrichment courses in Music, Art, Physical Education, and Technology. Students attend these "specials" weekly along with computer training and instructive Library skills. Our Dual Immersion program provides an opportunity for students to study academics in Spanish and in English. This program opens the door to other cultures and helps students understand and appreciate people from other countries.
- We believe parent involvement in school is key to the success of our students. We welcome parent volunteers to participate in our classrooms and on our field trips. First Grade field trips include presentations at the Sun Valley Museum of Art, and a spring riparian walk at the Nature Conservancy's Silver Creek Preserve. The Company of Fools generously performs at least one children's production for us at the Liberty Theatre in Hailey.
The First Grade experience at Hemingway is an enriching foundation for young students.
By all accounts, Hemingway STEAM School truly is a very special place.
