Mr. Gvozdas

At DePauw University, where I received my undergraduate degree, the expectation was that students would continue to further their education after graduation; for me, I thought that was going to be law school. I had taken the LSAT and had applied to a few law schools; however, I started questioning that path when I began working at a youth summer camp in Maine. At Camp Laurel in Readfield, Maine, I worked with boys and girls ranging in age from eight to sixteen, and I loved it. I cherished the opportunity to work with the youth, the chance to give back, and the challenge of preparing the next generation. So, I bypassed law school and enrolled at Indiana University-Bloomington’s School of Education and proceeded to earn my Master’s degree in Elementary Education. Being a teacher offers a new and interesting challenge each day and each school year. The challenge is to prepare each student to become successful, responsible, and high achieving. I find that this can only be accomplished through daily rigor and relevance of material coupled with positive relationships at school.
