Food Service Policies
September 6, 2019.
Dear Families,
Yesterday an email was sent to all families in the Blaine County School District regarding Food Service policies. This email raised concerns and questions for our community. This was not our intention and we apologize for this.
Our policy states that the Child Nutrition Program will operate in such a manner that no student shall be discriminated against because of race, sex, color, national origin, age or disability.
Food service policies are shared as part of the Free and Reduced Application process. This is a requirement of all school districts participating in the federal food program. In the past, the policies were shared with all families at the same time the Free and Reduced Lunch Applications were provided. This year they were sent in a separate email which did not provide proper context. We apologize for the confusion and any adverse impact this had.
All students will continue to receive a balanced meal for breakfast and lunch regardless of the balance on their family’s account. The policy mentions referring families to Health and Welfare. This is not part of our regular practice. Only when there is concern about a child’s safety do we report, as required by law.
If you have further questions or concerns about meals for your child, you are encouraged to speak to your school’s social worker:

Or you may contact Karen Hoffman, Administrative Assistant for questions about your food service account. 208-578-5018.
Our commitment to all of our families includes our Safe School Resolution, which states that the Blaine County School District cannot and does not inquire regarding the immigration status of a student or the student’s parents and/or guardians. Please read the full resolution in Spanish and English on our website.
We are committed to helping all students succeed and in identifying the institutional barriers that prevent students from succeeding. By working with our community, we can identify these barriers and address them together. We are grateful that community members brought these concerns to our attention.
With gratitude,
GwenCarol Holmes, Ed.D.
Superintendent. Blaine County School District
Estimadas familias:
