Welcome to Art!
The EHSS Visual Arts program provides K–8 students with a broad scope of experience in a variety of 2D and 3D media while implementing the Engineering Design Process. Students develop skills using the Elements and Principles of Design and find inspiration in exploring the natural environment, world cultures, art history, and contemporary art. Weekly lessons are designed to sequentially build skills, knowledge, and understanding through the grade levels. K-5 students attend art once a week and students in grades 6-8 have Art of Engineering offered as a core class. Art at Hemingway gives students opportunities to employ cognitive skills such as divergent thinking, risk-taking, and opportunities to make evaluative judgments during the creative problem-solving process. Our goal is for all of our graduating Huskies to be confident in their abilities to express themselves through art, communicate visually and be creative problem-solvers.
Each student at Hemingway STEAM School has an online art portfolio (via Artsonia) where they can save images of their work. This tool allows students and families to see how growth is made in art.
