At EHSS, middle school students are most commonly involved with IDLA courses as a way to stay ahead for high school level classes when involved in SVSEF and ski teams. It is strongly encouraged that students wait until the spring or summer of their 8th grade year to add High School level courses to their workload as it is generally not appropriate for 6th and 7th grade students to add high school level course work to their middle school experience.
**There may be instances and special circumstances when IDLA could prove to be beneficial for certain students outside of what is commonly supported.
IDLA courses are NOT connected with EHSS or WRHS teachers or staff. Once registered by the school counselor, all work and communication is done directly with IDLA.
IDLA courses are very independent in nature. While there is a teacher available for every course, it is not comparable to in-person learning.
The time commitment for each course is large, even for courses such as Lifetime Fitness.
If Advanced Opportunity (AO) money is used to pay for an overload HS level course, the final grade WILL be reflected on your child's HS transcript. This will occur even if the grade earned is not preferable and you cannot opt out. AO funds do not have to be used to pay for courses. Self-pay is also an option.
